The Chicago Bears (3-2) visit the Atlanta Falcons (2-3) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, kicking off at 1:00 PM ET Sunday, Oct 18, on Fox. The game opened with the Falcons getting 3.5 on Oct 13 at 11:08 UTC. By Oct 18 at 11:32 UTC the consensus has them at +1.5, so Chicago is now a 1.5-point favorite. That move took the number through 3, the first key number, and through 2 as well. A Falcons team that would have been a field-goal-plus home underdog is now close to a pick'em.
The total moved the other way and just as hard. It opened at 49.5 (Oct 13, 06:30 UTC) and sits at 52.5, a full 3 points higher.
This is one of the few games with a published split. On the spread, 42% of bets and 41% of money are on Chicago, with 58% and 59% on Atlanta: same side, no divergence. On the total, 66% of bets and 70% of money are on the Over, again aligned.
The ratings side with Atlanta, which helps explain the move. Play-by-play efficiency has the Falcons at +2.6 and the Bears at −5.9. Add 1.75 points of home field and the projection is Atlanta by 10.3, a long way from a number that still has Chicago laying 1.5.
The injury report adds context but no priced adjustment. Caleb Williams is questionable with a hamstring injury. Chicago is without defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo, a trench starter whose play is still inside the season numbers, along with linebackers T.J. Edwards and Keyshaun Elliott and running back Kyle Monangai, and Atlanta is without cornerback C.J. Henderson. No point figure was found for those absences, so the ratings do not adjust for them; if anything, that makes the Bears' defensive numbers look better than the lineup on the field.
The records point the other way. Chicago is 3-2 and 1-1 on the road; Atlanta is 2-3 and 0-2 at home. Both teams have scored 119 points in five games, but Chicago has allowed 96 and Atlanta 122. Here is how our five handicappers graded it.
Falcons 31, Bears 22, Falcons cover the 1.5, Over 52.5.
