Vanderbilt (3-4, 0-4 SEC) at No. 12 Kentucky (6-1, 4-1 SEC). Saturday, Oct. 24, 7:30 p.m. ET, Kroger Field, Lexington, SEC Network.
Your hosts are Pippa Ashcroft, a Vanderbilt economics student who writes a country song about every game, and Rhett Abernathy-Coyle, a Kentucky fan raised on a horse farm out past Keeneland who grades teams like bloodlines.
Pippa: You grade bloodlines, Rhett? Sugar, I grade hooks. And your team's got a catchy one this year. I'll give you that.
Rhett: A song about every game? Charming, Pippa. Write me one about a horse, and I'll come to the show.

Kentucky won 21-13 at Oklahoma. Minchey went 21 of 28 for 158 yards and two touchdowns. Jason Patterson led the running backs with 38 yards on 12 carries.
Vanderbilt lost 31-21 to Arkansas, which snapped a 14-game SEC skid. Curtis threw for 274 yards, and Alexander and Makhilyn Young ran for touchdowns. Sherrill caught eight passes for 99 yards and a score.
Rhett: Five straight wins since Alabama. A thoroughbred that never breaks stride.
Injuries and availability
The official SEC availability report for this game hasn't been published yet. Baxter didn't lead Kentucky's backs at Oklahoma, so watch for his name when the report posts. No injury news has surfaced for Vanderbilt.
What the coaches are up to
Will Stein is in his first season at Kentucky, hired Dec. 1, 2025. His Wildcats are plus-11 in turnover margin, third in FBS, and 3-0 on the road. They won back-to-back one-point games at South Carolina and against LSU.
Clark Lea has led Vanderbilt since December 2020. His team went 10-3 last season. His defense came in highly touted but has struggled.
Player storylines
Ball security could decide it. Kentucky has taken the ball away 16 times, and Vanderbilt has thrown seven interceptions. Sherrill gets a shot at a Kentucky pass defense ranked 116th. Kentucky's weak spot is third downs. It converts 29.1%, last in FBS. Vanderbilt's run defense allowed 196 yards to Ole Miss and 170 to Arkansas.
What's happening on campus
Kentucky Athletics set this game as a Blue Out under the lights at Kroger Field. Kentucky's Homecoming already happened, against LSU on Oct. 10. Both teams have a week off after this game.
Anything else fun and true
Kentucky's only loss was 45-17 to Alabama. Vanderbilt opened the season 3-0, including a 35-31 win over NC State. Next, Kentucky visits No. 11 Tennessee on Nov. 7, and Vanderbilt goes to Mississippi State.
Pippa: Every great album saves the anthem for the end, Rhett.
Rhett: And every great horse saves its kick for the stretch, Pippa.
