"Uniform of the Week? Ten Out of Ten": Nix Wyatt-Aldana Takes the Ducks to Champaign

By Phoenix 'Nix' Wyatt-Aldana · Oregon Insider

Meet Your Insider
Hey, Duck fans, welcome to The Cover Window! I'm Phoenix Wyatt-Aldana, but please call me Nix. I'm a sneaker-and-uniform designer from Eugene, which means I review jerseys and route trees with exactly the same ferocity. A slant with sloppy footwork? That's a wrinkled hem, darling. I travel with this team and I live with this team, and before I analyze anybody, I rate their uniform. It's the law. My catchphrase is "Uniform of the week? Ten out of ten." When we win, the review reads "10 out of 10, uniform AND execution." When we lose, I review it like a runway show where somebody tripped in the wrong shoes: honest, kind and very detailed. Each week you get the players, the coaches and the matchup, plus a little sparkle.

The School in 60 Seconds
Oregon has played football since 1894. Autzen Stadium opened in 1967 and is listed at 54,000 seats, though anyone who's been inside knows it sounds much bigger. In 2014 quarterback Marcus Mariota became Oregon's first Heisman Trophy winner, after throwing for 4,454 yards and 42 touchdowns. He finished with the second-most points of any Heisman winner, behind only O.J. Simpson. The Ducks moved to the Big Ten in 2024 and won the league right away: 13-1 overall and 9-0 in conference play. Last year they went 13-2 and 8-1 in the league. Two straight seasons of runway-ready football.

The Coach and the Scheme
Dan Lanning was hired on Dec. 11, 2021. His 2024 team went 9-0 in the Big Ten and won the title, and Ducks Wire notes he has never lost a Big Ten road game. In 2026 the offense throws the ball well: 283.3 passing yards a game and 16 passing touchdowns, with an even split between runs and passes (about 48% runs). Oregon averages 37.0 points and 420.3 yards a game. The defense allows 20.7 points and only 3.25 yards a carry, and it has intercepted nine passes. One thing to tailor: Oregon has lost 11 turnovers and forced 11. That's a perfectly even hem, but I want it tucked.

Players to Know
QB Dante Moore: 69 of 99 for 926 yards, 9 TD and no interceptions in four games, with a 178.27 rating. He suffered a concussion at USC on Sept. 26. His MRI and CT scans were clean, but he was listed OUT on every Big Ten availability report for UCLA and Nebraska. Oregon has not announced a return date.
QB Dylan Raiola: 515 yards, 6 TD, 2 INT this season. Against Nebraska, his former team, he came in with Oregon down 14-6 and threw the winning 4-yard touchdown to TE Jamari Johnson with 28 seconds left. QB Brock Thomas started that game and went 9 of 20 for 54 yards. Lanning said the two will keep competing in practice.
RB Jordon Davison: 301 yards and 6 TD on 62 carries.
WR Evan Stewart: 27 catches, 352 yards, 4 TD. He was listed out on the Oct. 17 report.
Defense: LB Matayo Uiagalelei has 5 sacks, DB Jett Washington has 2 interceptions, and DB Koi Perich has 34 tackles and 2 interceptions.

The Conference Picture
Oregon is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten, 3-1 at home and 1-1 on the road. The Ducks are No. 25 in this week's Coaches Poll. The losses came at Oklahoma State, 39-31, and at home to UCLA, 17-15. With a road trip this week and Northwestern next, this is a stretch where the outfit has to come together.

This Week: Oregon (4-2) at Illinois (3-3)
Saturday, Oct. 24 · 3 p.m. ET (noon PT) · Gies Memorial Stadium, Champaign · Big Ten Network. It's only Oregon's third visit to Illinois, and the first since 1993.
Last week: Oregon beat Nebraska 17-14 with two fourth-quarter scoring drives. Illinois had a bye after winning 38-37 in overtime at Michigan State on Oct. 10.
Our offense vs. their defense: Illinois allows 27.8 points and 375.2 yards a game, and 248.3 passing yards. Whoever plays quarterback for us should have chances through the air.
Their offense vs. our defense: Illinois averages 31.8 points and runs for 5.06 yards a carry. WR Collin Dixon has 47 catches, 608 yards and 9 touchdowns, which ranks third in FBS in receiving touchdowns. Starting QB Katin Houser broke his left hand at Michigan State, and freshman Michael Clayton II will likely make his first career start.
Series: Oregon leads 3-1 and won the last meeting 38-9 at Autzen in 2024.
Availability: On Oregon's last official report (Oct. 17), Aaron Flowers, Dante Moore, Evan Stewart and Jeremiah McClellan were out and Dave Iuli was a game-time decision. The first report for this game comes out during game week. Illinois: Houser is out with the broken hand. I found no other official Illinois report as of Oct. 18, 2026.
What decides it: (1) Who plays quarterback for us: Moore, Raiola or Thomas. (2) Can our secondary stay with Dixon? (3) How a freshman QB handles his first start against a defense allowing 3.25 yards a carry.
And to Margery Vandermolen, Illinois's insider: your orange is gorgeous this time of year. I'm giving the Illini uniforms a sincere nine. The tenth point is reserved for us.

Local Flavor (unsponsored, not an ad)
Watching in Eugene? The Big Dirty on Olive Street does a game-day burger worthy of a runway.

My call: Oregon Ducks 33, Illinois Fighting Illini 23.
