"Show me the tape": Delphine Arceneaux-Moss Takes the Open Week

Delphine Arceneaux-Moss · Missouri Insider · College Debut · Week 8

Meet Your Insider
Show me the tape! I'm Delphine Arceneaux-Moss, and I'm your Missouri insider here at The Cover Window. The short version: I'm a mizzou-J-school style beat reporter who breaks news and blitz tendencies. I follow this team from the stands, every week, and I love it out loud. Fair warning about my habit: 'Breaks news' on obvious things, live, with a fake news ticker sound. On the podcast, my segment is called Breaking News. The show card describes it like this: breaks obvious news with a fake ticker. My rules are simple. I keep it clean and kind, I celebrate players as people, I respect every opponent, and I never invent a stat, a quote or a fact. If I can't source it, you won't hear it from me. This week the Tigers have an open date, so instead of a game preview you get the full tour: the school, the coach, the players, the league and what's next.

The School in 60 Seconds
Home is Memorial Stadium in Columbia, MO, built in 1927 with a listed capacity of 71,168. The playing surface is Faurot Field, per Wikipedia. The fight song is "Every True Son, Fight Tiger", per Wikipedia. The band is the Marching Mizzou, per Wikipedia. The program claims national titles from 1960, per Wikipedia. The last five seasons went 6-7, 6-7, 11-2, 10-3 and 8-5, from 2021 through 2025. The most frequent opponents from 2016 through 2025 tell you who matters around here: South Carolina (6-4 in 10 meetings), Vanderbilt (8-2 in 10 meetings), Arkansas (9-1 in 10 meetings), Georgia (0-8 in 8 meetings). That's a list of games, not an official rivalry list. The 2026 recruiting class ranked No. 34 nationally in CFBD's team rankings. And if you visit, ask somebody about Homecoming, which the NCAA recognizes as starting at Missouri in 1911; it's the tradition I'd show you first.

The Coach and the Scheme
Eli Drinkwitz leads the Tigers; CollegeFootballData dates the hire to Dec. 9, 2019. Through 7 games, Missouri scores 31.1 points a game and allows 19.6. By our math from CFBD figures, the offense runs on about 53% of its plays, gaining 164.4 rushing yards and 265.9 passing yards a game. That's a balanced menu. On third down, Missouri converts 41.4% of the time and opponents convert 36.4%. The defense has 18 sacks and 44 tackles for loss, and the turnover ledger reads 4 giveaways against 9 takeaways. Penalties cost 63.1 yards a game. The high-water mark so far was 54 points against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Sept. 4, 2026, and 1 of the 7 games was decided by eight points or fewer. Over the season, Missouri has outscored opponents by a combined 81 points. Every one of those numbers is a little homework for the open week.

Players to Know
QB Austin Simmons (passing leader): 132/209, 1773 yards, 14 TD, 2 INT.
RB Jamal Roberts (rushing leader): 167 carries, 867 yards, 8 TD.
WR Cayden Lee (receiving leader): 47 catches, 678 yards, 5 TD.
On defense, LB Nicholas Rodriguez leads with 76 tackles; Daeden Hopkins has 7 sacks; S Trajen Greco has 2 interceptions.
Injury news: we found no official availability report during an open week, so we're not listing any. Official reports return before the next game.

The Conference Picture
Missouri is 5-2 overall, 4-0 at home and 1-2 away. In SEC play the Tigers are 2-2, which sorts them No. 8 of 16 by record. Georgia sits on top at 4-1 in league games. Right around us: LSU (2-2) and Auburn (2-2). The top of the table: Georgia (4-1), Kentucky (4-1), Tennessee (3-1). That order is a sort by record, not the official tiebreaker order. The Tigers are No. 22 in the latest AP poll in our data. Every league game from here is a chance to move up, and the open week is when the plan for that climb gets built. An open date in late October is a chance to heal up and study the stretch run.

This Week: Open Date
No game for Missouri this week. The last time out, on Oct. 17, 2026, the Tigers lost to Ole Miss on the road, 31-3. Next up: Saturday, Oct. 31, at Arkansas, in Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, Fayetteville, with a flex kickoff window (2:30 to 3:30 or 5 to 7 p.m.). Arkansas comes in at 3-4. From 2016 through 2025, Missouri went 9-1 against Arkansas in 10 meetings. After that, CFBD lists vs. Texas (Nov. 7), at Georgia (Nov. 14), vs. Kentucky (Nov. 21), vs. Oklahoma (Nov. 28). Until then: rest, film and a little extra time in the ice tub.

My Open-Week Take
Here's how I see it, friends. An open date isn't a day off; it's a deep breath. The coaches get to fix the little things, the players get their legs back, and we fans get a Saturday to call our families, clean the grill and argue happily about the depth chart. When the Tigers come back, I'll be right there in the stands, same seat, same voice, and I'll bring you every sourced detail. Thanks for spending part of your open week with me. Show me the tape!
