Meet Your Insider
Motion to reconsider: denied! I'm Gianna Ravello, and I'm your Florida State insider here at The Cover Window. The short version: I'm a capitol-lobbyist-type who networks recruits and reads coverage like legislation. I follow this team from the stands, every week, and I love it out loud. Fair warning about my habit: turns every take into a bill on the floor. On the podcast, my segment is called Floor Debate. The show card describes it like this: turns every take into a bill. My rules are simple. I keep it clean and kind, I celebrate players as people, I respect every opponent, and I never invent a stat, a quote or a fact. If I can't source it, you won't hear it from me. This week the Seminoles have an open date, so instead of a game preview you get the full tour: the school, the coach, the players, the league and what's next.
The School in 60 Seconds
Home is Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee, FL, built in 1950 with a listed capacity of 67,277. The playing surface is Bobby Bowden Field, per Wikipedia. The fight song is "FSU Fight Song", per Wikipedia. The band is the Marching Chiefs, per Wikipedia. The program claims national titles from 1993, 1999, 2013, per Wikipedia. The last five seasons went 5-7, 10-3, 13-1, 2-10 and 5-7, from 2021 through 2025. The most frequent opponents from 2016 through 2025 tell you who matters around here: Miami (4-6 in 10 meetings), Clemson (1-8 in 9 meetings), Florida (4-5 in 9 meetings), Louisville (4-4 in 8 meetings). That's a list of games, not an official rivalry list. The 2026 recruiting class ranked No. 16 nationally in CFBD's team rankings. And if you visit, ask somebody about Osceola and Renegade; it's the tradition I'd show you first.
The Coach and the Scheme
Mike Norvell leads the Seminoles; CollegeFootballData dates the hire to Dec. 7, 2019. Through 7 games, Florida State scores 31.6 points a game and allows 27.9. By our math from CFBD figures, the offense runs on about 59% of its plays, gaining 180.1 rushing yards and 234.1 passing yards a game. That's a team that wants to lean on people. On third down, Florida State converts 42.2% of the time and opponents convert 42.9%. The defense has 19 sacks and 41 tackles for loss, and the turnover ledger reads 10 giveaways against 6 takeaways. Penalties cost 55.9 yards a game. The high-water mark so far was 38 points against Virginia on Oct. 3, 2026, and 2 of the 7 games were decided by eight points or fewer. Over the season, Florida State has outscored opponents by a combined 26 points. Every one of those numbers is a little homework for the open week.
Players to Know
QB Ashton Daniels (passing leader): 106/181, 1618 yards, 12 TD, 8 INT.
RB Ousmane Kromah (rushing leader): 114 carries, 609 yards, 5 TD.
WR Duce Robinson (receiving leader): 22 catches, 407 yards, 4 TD.
On defense, LB Chris Jones leads with 46 tackles; DL Rylan Kennedy has 6 sacks; DB Ashlynd Barker has 2 interceptions.
Injury news: we found no official availability report during an open week, so we're not listing any. Official reports return before the next game.
The Conference Picture
Florida State is 3-4 overall, 3-1 at home and 0-3 away. In ACC play the Seminoles are 1-3, which sorts them No. 15 of 17 by record. Miami sits on top at 4-0 in league games. Right around us: Georgia Tech (1-2) and Stanford (1-3). The top of the table: Miami (4-0), Wake Forest (4-1), SMU (3-1). That order is a sort by record, not the official tiebreaker order. Every league game from here is a chance to move up, and the open week is when the plan for that climb gets built. An open date in late October is a chance to heal up and study the stretch run.
This Week: Open Date
No game for Florida State this week. The last time out, on Oct. 17, 2026, the Seminoles lost to Miami on the road, 43-35. Next up: Saturday, Oct. 31, vs. Clemson, in Bobby Bowden Field at Doak S. Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, with a kickoff time to be announced; it is Military Appreciation. Clemson comes in at 4-2. From 2016 through 2025, Florida State went 1-8 against Clemson in 9 meetings. After that, CFBD lists at Boston College (Nov. 7), at Pittsburgh (Nov. 14), vs. NC State (Nov. 21), vs. Florida (Nov. 27). Until then: rest, film and a little extra time in the ice tub.
My Open-Week Take
Here's how I see it, friends. An open date isn't a day off; it's a deep breath. The coaches get to fix the little things, the players get their legs back, and we fans get a Saturday to call our families, clean the grill and argue happily about the depth chart. When the Seminoles come back, I'll be right there in the stands, same seat, same voice, and I'll bring you every sourced detail. Thanks for spending part of your open week with me. Motion to reconsider: denied!
