No. 6 Indiana (6-1, 3-1 Big Ten) at Michigan (4-2, 1-2 Big Ten). Saturday, Oct. 24, noon ET, Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor, Mich., FOX.
Your hosts are Mallory Penhallow, a former Miss Monroe County runner-up who runs a 40-tab efficiency model, and Augustin "Gus" Hartwell, a Michigan engineering-school stats savant in a maize sweater.
Mallory: Hello, Hoosier Nation! Pageant answer: it's the explosives, darling.
Gus: Hail to the spreadsheet. Column header: "Champions of the West."
Players to watch
Indiana quarterback Josh Hoover has thrown 18 touchdown passes and no interceptions, with 1,660 yards. Wide receiver Charlie Becker has 39 catches for 694 yards and eight touchdowns, and Nick Marsh has 585 yards and seven scores. Running backs Turbo Richard (643 yards) and Lee Beebe (575) share the load. On defense, Tobi Osunsanmi has seven sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss, and Isaiah Jones leads with 51 tackles. Indiana allows 12.9 points per game, fourth in FBS.
Michigan's defense allows 256.5 yards per game, third in FBS. Troy Bowles leads with 50 tackles, and John Henry Daley has 3.5 sacks. On offense, wide receiver JJ Buchanan has 27 catches for 482 yards and four scores, and Jordan Marshall leads the rushers with 293 yards. Sophomore quarterback Bryce Underwood has 924 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions.
Mallory: Zero interceptions, Gus. Bless your yards-per-play.
What happened last week
Indiana lost 19-15 to Ohio State, its first loss in 23 games. On the final play, Marsh caught a fourth-and-4 pass but couldn't get his left foot down inbounds. The Hoosier defense held the Buckeyes to 313 yards, only 78 on the ground. Becker caught nine passes for 165 yards. Afterward, Curt Cignetti said, "We can accomplish anything we want, all of our goals, except going undefeated".
Michigan trailed Penn State 3-0 at halftime, then scored 21 second-half points to win 21-18. Underwood was benched at halftime after throwing two interceptions, and true freshman Tommy Carr went 5 of 7 for 47 yards and ran for a touchdown. Savion Hiter ran 11 times for 78 yards.
Gus: Second-half data set: 21 points. Statistically significant. I made a pivot table to celebrate.
Injuries and availability
Hoover landed on his right shoulder against Ohio State, missed one play and finished the game. Indiana hasn't given an official status for Saturday. The first official Big Ten availability reports post three days before kickoff. Kyle Whittingham hasn't named Michigan's starting quarterback and may not announce one before the game.
What the coaches are up to
Cignetti's Hoosiers won the 2025 national title, beating Miami 27-21 in the CFP championship game on Jan. 19, 2026, to finish 16-0. He brought 13 transfers with him from James Madison when he arrived.
Whittingham was named Michigan's 22nd head coach on Dec. 26, 2025, after going 177-88 in 21 seasons at Utah. He replaced Sherrone Moore. His first Michigan team is 4-1 at home, and its losses came against Iowa, 20-19, and at Minnesota, 20-14.
Player storylines
The quarterback question in Ann Arbor is the week's biggest storyline: Underwood or Carr. On the other side, Becker and Marsh face a Michigan pass defense ranked 14th. Michigan has lost 11 turnovers and is minus-3 in turnover margin, while Indiana has lost only three.
What's happening on campus
Saturday is Michigan's Block Cancer Game and Parents Weekend, and the game is sold out. Michigan already held homecoming on Oct. 17 against Penn State. The Michigan Stadium record crowd is 115,109, set against Notre Dame in 2013.
Mallory: A sold-out Big House. I'll wear the sash on the way in, just to practice.
Gus: In Ann Arbor, darling, we call that a participation ribbon. Kindly meant.
Anything else fun and true
Michigan leads the series 62-11, but Indiana won the last meeting, 20-15 in Bloomington in 2024. The teams didn't play in 2025. Michigan has the most all-time wins in college football, and Indiana's Fernando Mendoza became the 18th Heisman winner to also win a national championship.
Mallory: Miss Congeniality sash, reserved for Gus. With love.
Gus: Hail to the Victors. Off-key, as promised.
