Both starting quarterbacks are questionable at the Sun Bowl. San José State (3-3, 1-1 Mountain West) visits UTEP (1-5, 0-2) at 9 p.m. on MW+.
San José State insider Tessa Nakagawa-Ruiz runs every game like a product launch. She's waiting on Luke Weaver, who has 1,529 passing yards and 11 touchdowns but is questionable after getting hurt in last week's 16-13 overtime loss to Wyoming. Running back Jabari Bates provides a steady option. UTEP insider Ernesto "Neto" Galindo rates effort by chile heat. He's watching EJ Colson Jr., who is questionable after a concussion, and loves Raymond Moore III's seven yards a carry.
UTEP lost 30-13 to Nevada last week. Both offenses rank low in ESPN's numbers. That puts the focus on defense and on which backup is ready if needed. Mild weather should keep things fair.
Our call: San José State 25, UTEP 17.
